NordLynx is NordVPN's proprietary protocol built on the WireGuard framework. WireGuard itself assigns static IP addresses, which creates a potential privacy issue for a no-logs VPN. NordVPN solved this by adding a double-NAT system: your device connects to a local network address first, which is then routed through WireGuard. This preserves WireGuard's speed while maintaining privacy.

NordVPN offers obfuscated servers specifically designed to bypass deep packet inspection (DPI) used in countries like China, Russia, and Iran. In practice, VPN reliability in these regions fluctuates depending on government enforcement intensity. NordVPN's obfuscated servers have been reported to work during periods of moderate enforcement, but no VPN guarantees reliable access in highly restricted environments.

NordVPN's privacy policy states a strict no-logs policy covering browsing data, traffic, timestamps, and IP addresses. This policy has been independently audited by PwC. In in recent years, NordVPN also began a transition to RAM-only servers, which cannot retain data between reboots. Based on available evidence, we consider their no-logs claims credible.

A single NordVPN subscription allows up to 10 simultaneous connections. This covers most households and small teams. If you need more devices covered, a router-level VPN configuration (using a VPN-compatible router) can protect every device on your network under a single connection.

NordVPN has a strong track record for accessing geo-restricted streaming services, though we do not systematically test streaming unblocking as availability changes frequently. NordLynx speeds are fast enough that streaming 4K content adds negligible buffering on decent connections.

Full Threat Protection (available on Windows and macOS) blocks ads and trackers at the DNS level AND scans downloaded files for malware – and works even when you are not connected to a VPN server. Threat Protection Lite (available on Android, iOS, and Linux) only performs DNS-level blocking and requires an active VPN connection. The lite version is still useful, but considerably less capable than the full version.

On a 2-year plan, NordVPN costs approximately $3.59–$4.99 per month depending on the tier – competitive for a full-featured VPN. The monthly plan (~$12.99) is more expensive, as with most VPNs. If you use a VPN regularly, the 2-year plan offers solid value given the feature set. If you only need occasional protection, a shorter commitment may suit you better.
